The viticulture research group is made up of professors, doctors and researchers from the Faculty of Oenology, Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology of the Rovira i Virgili University of Tarragona, with a long history in viticulture research. He has traditionally signed contracts with companies in the wine sector to provide technical advice and research in different areas, as well as participating in competitive projects and collaborating with other universities and research groups.
The possibility of having the fields and experimental winery of the URV, Finca Mas dels Frares, with different varieties of wine, as well as the research laboratories of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology of the Faculty of Oenology, gives added value to the research capacity of the group. On the other hand, the Vitivinicultura group carries out field tests on wines of different ages, varieties and wine-growing areas or different designations of origin, in order to evaluate the adaptation of the varieties to the environment and optimise the quality of the vineyard and the wine produced.
